WHEN DO YOU NEED CROWNS & BRIDGES?

1. WHAT IS PORCELAIN CROWN?

Cosmetic porcelain crowns are used for severe cases of chipped / broken / eroded / tilted / discolored teeth in order to provide better protection but also maintain the natural beauty of the front teeth area. For porcelain crowns more tooth enamel will need to be removed compared to for veneers. For extreme cases of tilted / broken / eroded teeth, root canal treatment may be required prior to placement of cosmetic porcelain crowns.

2. WHAT IS DENTAL BRIDGE?

A bridge — a device used to replace missing teeth — attaches artificial teeth to adjacent natural teeth, called abutment teeth. Bridges are either permanently attached (fixed bridges), or they can be removable. Fixed bridges are applied by either placing crowns on the abutment teeth or by bonding the artificial teeth directly to the abutment teeth. Removable bridges are attached to the teeth with metal clasps or by precision attachments.

4. WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF PORCELAIN CROWN / BRIDGE?

Pros:

Can be applied more widely compared to porcelain veneer
Less expensive than porcelain veneer
Cons:

Require more teeth grinding compared to porcelain veneer
In some cases, might require root canal treatment

5. WHICH MATERIAL IS USED TO PRODUCE PORCELAIN CROWN / BRIDGE?

Nano Emax (Ivoclar Vivadent) offers the fit, form and function which is expected from pressed ceramics. In addition, they offer improved flexural strength (400 MPa). With optimized esthetic properties creating all-ceramic restorations that offer true-to-nature results, Nano Emax is usually used for front teeth.

Lava – Ultimate (3M ESPE) is a type of Nano Ceramic resin from the US using the Nano Technology and suitable thermal procedure producing a special compound which is not only as natural as real teeth (therefore can be used for front teeth) but also very hard (so they can also be used for back teeth)

Zirconia (Ivoclar Vivadent) is a type of porcelain crown made only from Zirconia material – a very hard type of non-metal. However, as zirconia does not have the natural teeth look, it is usually used for back teeth (especially for crowns on implants) to achieve the best chewing ability.

Crystal Ultra is suitable for crowns on implants, 3-unit bridges,… At 480 MPa, Crystal Ultra’s compressive strength is the strongest of all of the esthetic all ceramics and ceramic hybrids on the market. Crystal Ultra porcelain crown can be completed within 1 day. Crystal Ultra is registered with the Food And Drugs Administration (FDA).

Precious metal crowns (Gold, Platin, Paalladium,…) are crowns with frames made of highly valuable metals such as gold, platin, palladium,… covered with many layers porcelain for good biological impact, hardness and aesthetic factors. The only disadvantage of this solution is its high cost.

6. WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR PORCELAIN CROWN / BRIDGE?

The procedure for laminate / porcelain veneer fluctuates depending on the quantity of veneers. On average, each case of laminate / porcelain veneer (5-10 units) requires approximately 5-7 days, including 4-5 appointments.

Appointment 1: Examination (taking X-rays if needed) and making treatment plan. Teeth cleaning, taking impression for Smile Design. Your teeth will be checked carefully to identify and eliminate all potential risks.
Appointment 2: Prepare laminate / porcelain veneer, taking impression for study cast and place temporary veneer
Appointment 3-4: Try-in and install the veneer(s)
Appointment 4-5: Re-examination and adjustment (if needed)
It is recommended that patients have re-examination every 6 months, either at our center or with any local dentist.

Conditions and Requirement

Dental warranty will be reduced or voided for:

Diseases caused by poor post-procedure dental hygiene.
Damages caused by extreme stress (grinding at night, grip of the teeth).
Patients do not follow dentists’ post-procedure home care instructions
Patients do not re-visit for dental check-ups and cleanings.
